ITALY - ROME & VERSILIA CUP WITH VENICE OPTION: Tour # 2 - July 2 / 14, 2011

Soccer Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Saturday, July 2
  • Depart North America for overnight flight to Rome, Italy. (The time in Italy is 6 hours later in the day, compared to EST)
Day 2 - Sunday, July 3
  • Arrive Rome, upon arrival you are met by private bus and Tour Director who stay with you throughout the trip as Tour Guide & Manager.
  • 3 night stay in a central hotel in The Eternal City of Rome, with breakfast.
  • Evening stroll around the nearby Via Veneto, the most famous street in Rome, see the Spanish Steps. Time for shopping in this lively area.
  • Enjoy our first Roman Dinner at a selected restaurant.
Day 3 - Monday, July 4
  • Bus departs hotel for the religious capital of the world.
  • Meet our specialist Tour Guide at the Sistine Chapel entrance in the world's smallest republic, The Vatican City. We marvel at the Sistine Chapel, and then go into St Peter's Cathedral.
  • Depart St Peter's Square and walk to Piazza Navona, enjoy a lunch break.
  • Depart for the Pantheon - built a few years before the birth of Christ. Free time for shopping and extra sightseeing. Optional pizza dinner.
Day 4 - Tuesday, July 5
  • Depart by bus for The Coliseum, -this most spectacular arena housed 55,000 spectators and provided free entertainment "For the Glory of the Emperor and the Pleasure of the People". A short walk along Dei Fori Imperiali to The Forum - which was the civic centre of ancient Rome, built in 29 BC by Augustus. Free time for shopping in the vicinityof The Trevi Fountain& Via Veneto.
  • Friendship Game today against Rome team, with socialising.
Day 5 - Wednesday, July 6
  • Depart Rome after breakfast for our journey north-west to Tuscany - the most charismatic region of Italy - and the seaside resort of Viareggio. This excellent location is within an hour of both Florence and Pisa.
  • Arrive late afternoon to check-in at our accommodations. We enjoy a 6 night stay at the Versilia Cup tournament. Two meals per day are included - breakfast in the hotel and dinner at restaurants.
  • Check in at the Tournament HQ to register our players (passports) and receive our Tournament Information package. We have a private bus, which takes us to all the games and on sightseeing tours within Tuscany.
Day 6 - Thursday, July 7
The Versilia Cup, Tuscany
  • The Versilia Cup starts today with Round 1 games - teams are divided into pools of 4 or 5 teams on a league basis in this first phase. So, you will play either 3 or 4 games, on grass fields, in Round 1.
  • Opening Ceremony this evening, including Grand Parade of Teams.
Day 7 - Friday, July 8
  • In between games, we have the opportunity to relax & sunbathe on the lovely sandy beaches at Viareggio, and enjoy excursions to Florence.
  • Round 1 games continue today in the San Marino Cup tournament.
  • There are social events each evening for the players & adults, plus a host of special events during the week – including Coaches Reception
Day 8 - Saturday, July 9
  • The Versilia Cup games continue today, as we reach the climax of Round 1. The league positions determine whether you progress into the A or B Finals, for the quarter finals later today or tomorrow
Day 9 - Sunday, July 10
  • Semi-Finals Day at the Versilia Cup - the knockout stages. If we win today, we enter tomorrow's finals ... if we do not, I guess we are off to the beach or sightseeing.
Day 10 - Monday, July 11
  • Versilia Cup Finals' Day - all day today.
  • Each final is followed by the Awards Ceremony with top-class prizes.
Day 11 - Tuesday, July 12
  • 8.30 am Depart ViaReggio for Rome airport OR an optional 2 day stay in Venice - just 3 hours away and we arrive around lunch-time.
  • A private Water Taxi transfers us to our hotel close to St Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace. We see the Rialto Bridge, the Bridge of Sighs watch the world go by in Florian's Cafe, in the fashionable St Mark's Square.
Day 12 - Wednesday, July 13
  • We recommend a visit inside the byzantine, 12th century St Mark's Basilica in St Mark's Square. We enjoy shopping in the narrow, quaint streets of Venice and see an excellent Murano Glass Demonstration at the Marco Polo Glass Center. Visit to the Rialto Bridge Street Market.
  • Finally we enjoy a Vaporetto ride along the breathtaking Grand Canal.
  • Option of Venetian Farewell Dinner this evening.
Day 13 - Thursday, July 14
  • Transfer to Marco Polo Airport to check in for your flight
  • Arrive back in North America late afternoon / early evening.
